Before You Sew
Helpful answers to common swim and ordering questions.
Is swimwear hard to sew?
It’s easier than it looks — promise.
Swimwear uses stretchy fabrics and a few specialty notions, but once you get the hang of it, it’s surprisingly approachable. Our swim fabrics are chosen with home sewists in mind, and our kits take the guesswork out of sourcing. If you’re comfortable sewing knits, you’re already halfway there.
What’s included in a swim kit?
All the essentials, zero scrambling.
Our swim kits include curated swim fabric, lining, elastic, thread, and the key notions you’ll need to complete your suit. Some kits also include a pattern, depending on the option you choose. Everything is thoughtfully pulled together so you can focus on sewing — not shopping around.
Do I need a serger to sew swimwear?
Nice to have, not required.
A regular sewing machine with a zigzag or stretch stitch works just fine for swimwear. A serger can speed things up if you have one, but it’s absolutely not a must-have to get great results.
How do I choose the right swim fabric?
Think smooth vs. textured.
We currently offer two swim bases — solid and rib — both made for swim with great stretch and recovery. Our solids are smooth, classic, and a go-to for timeless swim styles, while our rib adds a little texture and extra personality without sacrificing performance.
Both are swim-ready and beginner-friendly, so you really can’t go wrong. Pick the one that matches the look and feel you’re drawn to, and we’ll take care of the rest. Product pages include helpful details if you want a closer look.
Are your swim fabrics suitable for chlorine and salt water?
Yes — they’re made for real swim days.
Our swim fabrics are designed to handle movement, sun, pool time, and beach days. With proper care, they’ll keep their shape and color wear after wear.
I’m new to sewing swimwear — where should I start?
Start simple and build confidence.
A classic one-piece or an easy two-piece is a great first swim project. Our beginner-friendly kits and curated fabric pairings are designed to keep things approachable, so you can enjoy the process and feel great about the finished piece.
