LOVE the swim kits from Fabric + Flow. Everything is thought of for you and the selections are expertly curated.... The best part, though, is probably the warm and kind customer service - I've asked for help with print/colour matches and advice on orders/patterns and the kind folks at Fabric + Flow have always gone above and beyond.

Before You Sew

Not sure where to start? These quick answers will help you choose, sew, and care for your athletic fabrics with ease.

What’s the difference between athletic fabrics and regular knits?

Athletic fabrics typically offer higher stretch and recovery, better durability, and moisture-friendly properties compared to standard apparel knits. They’re made to move with your body and hold their shape through wear and washing.

Which athletic fabrics are best for leggings or sports bras?

For leggings and sports bras, we recommend our Athletic knits for structure and support, paired with Power mesh for lining or reinforcement where needed. Or grab our curated Athletic kits for everything you need.

Are these fabrics beginner-friendly?

Yes! Many of our athletic fabrics are suitable for confident beginners. If you’re new to sewing activewear, look for fabrics labeled as easy to sew and consider starting with athleisure or lounge-style projects before moving into more compressive garments.

Do I need special needles or thread for athletic sewing?

We recommend using a stretch or ballpoint needle and polyester thread for best results. For high-stress seams, a stretch stitch or serger will help maintain durability and flexibility.

How should I care for athletic fabrics once sewn?

Wash your finished garments in cold water on a gentle cycle and hang or lay flat to dry when possible. Avoid high heat, fabric softeners, and harsh detergents to preserve stretch, recovery, and colour.

Can these fabrics be used for everyday wear?

Absolutely. Many of our athletic fabrics are chosen for their comfort and wearability, making them perfect for athleisure, loungewear, and everyday pieces — not just workouts.
