Make + Master: Back to Sewing Bootcamp
A skill-refresh workshop for sewists ready to get back behind the machine.
Haven’t sewn in a while? Know the basics, but feel a little rusty? This guided workshop is designed to help you rebuild confidence while completing a tote bag featuring zippers, lining, topstitching and clean finishing techniques.
Along the way, you’ll refresh the foundational skills that make future sewing projects feel easier, more accurate and more approachable.
This is not a learn-to-sew-from-scratch class. It’s designed for makers who have used a sewing machine before and are ready for a supported sewing reset.
AT A GLANCE
Date: Saturday, Oct 17
Time: 9am-3pm
Skill Level: Confident Beginner / Returning Sewist
Project: Guided tote bag project
Instructor: Jodie Kachkar
Location: The WORKROOM at Fabric + Flow
WHAT YOU'LL REFRESH+ PRACTICE
Through your tote bag project, you’ll practice:
- Reading and following a sewing pattern
- Preparing, cutting and marking fabric accurately
- Maintaining consistent seam allowances
- Installing zippers
- Constructing and attaching a lining
- Topstitching and clean finishing techniques
- Pressing and understanding construction order
There will also be plenty of opportunity to ask questions, troubleshoot and revisit techniques that may have become a little fuzzy since you last sewed.
MAKE IT YOUR OWN
You’ll have the option to personalize your tote by choosing which zipper feature you’d like to include:
- A zippered pocket with an open-top bag, or
- A zippered bag closure with a slip pocket
Want to take on both? You’re welcome to add both zipper features for an extra challenge. Depending on your sewing pace, you may not fully finish the bag during class time, but Jodie will make sure you’re confident with the remaining steps before you leave.
IS THIS CLASS FOR YOU?
This workshop is a great fit if you have used a sewing machine before but want to refresh your skills, build confidence and feel more comfortable tackling projects independently.
You should already be comfortable threading a sewing machine and sewing a basic seam.
Brand new to sewing? We recommend starting with an introductory Thread + Technique workshop or a private lesson.
