Make + Master: Sloane Pullover

Learn to sew knits while making the relaxed sweatshirt or hoodie you’ll reach for all winter.

Ready to add knit garments to your sewing repertoire? In this full-day Make + Master workshop, you’ll sew the Sloane Pullover by Patterns by Liliya while learning the techniques that make working with sweatshirt knits approachable and repeatable.
The Sloane is a relaxed, slightly oversized pullover with a modern drop shoulder and two style options: keep it classic with a crewneck sweatshirt or add a lined hood and front pocket for the hoodie version.
Designed specifically as an approachable introduction to sewing stretch fabrics, the Sloane can be constructed using straight stitches — no serger required.
You’ll leave with a cozy handmade layer plus practical knit-sewing skills you can carry into future sweatshirts, joggers and other stretch-fabric projects.

WHAT YOU’LL MAKE
Choose your version of the Sloane Pullover:

• Crewneck — a relaxed drop-shoulder sweatshirt with ribbed neckline, cuffs and hem
• Hoodie — the same relaxed silhouette with a double-lined one-piece hood and classic front pocket
  

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN + PRACTICE
Through your Sloane project, you’ll learn how to:

• Work confidently with sweatshirt knits
• Understand stretch, recovery and fabric direction
• Cut and handle knit fabrics accurately
• Sew stretch fabrics using a regular sewing machine
• Construct a relaxed drop-shoulder garment
• Attach ribbing cleanly and evenly
• Sew cuffs and a ribbed hem band
• Finish a crew neckline with ribbing
• Construct and attach a lined hood if making the hoodie version
• Construct and attach the front pocket on the hoodie
• Achieve clean, professional-looking knit finishes
  

The Sloane is designed to be sewn entirely with straight stitches, making this a great next step if you’re comfortable with your sewing machine but haven’t ventured into knit garments yet.

IS THIS CLASS FOR YOU?
This class is a great fit if you’re comfortable using a sewing machine and ready to try garment sewing with knits. No previous experience sewing stretch fabrics is required — we’ll guide you through the techniques as you build confidence with sweatshirt fabric, ribbing and clean knit finishes.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Jodie Kachkar has been sewing since she was 12 and has spent 25 years teaching with Edmonton Public Schools, including teaching fashion to high school students. She brings an approachable, supportive teaching style to the WORKROOM and loves helping sewists build the skills and confidence to take on projects independently.

GOOD TO KNOW
We’ll take a break partway through the day so you can recharge before getting back to your project. Lunch is not included, so please bring something with you or plan to grab lunch nearby.
