Teen Maker Lab — Summer Sewing Workshops

A week-long, studio-based sewing program for creative teens ages 10–17.

Students will learn foundational sewing, textile-handling, and garment-construction skills while creating a finished project in a modern studio environment. No previous sewing experience is required.

Program Details

Ages: 10–17
Schedule: 9:00 AM–4:00 PM
Extended Studio Hours: Early drop-off from 8:00 AM and late pickup until 5:00 PM are available for an additional fee.
Class Size: Maximum 8 students

Included in Registration:

• All fabrics and project supplies
• Sewing pattern
• Use of studio sewing machines
• A complete sewing toolkit to keep
• Guided instruction throughout the week
• A finished take-home project
  

Spaces are intentionally limited to provide personalized instruction. Early registration is recommended.

Project

Students will create a sweatshirt using the Greenstyle Banff pattern, choosing either a classic crewneck or hooded style.

The project introduces garment construction, working with knit fabrics, and essential sewing techniques. Modifications or simplified project options may be offered to support different experience levels and learning needs.

Meet the Instructor

Jodie Kachkar is a high school teacher with 25 years of experience with Edmonton Public Schools. She has been sewing since she was 12 and brings a patient, practical, and hands-on approach to the studio.

Jodie believes sewing can feel challenging at first, but every mistake is part of learning. She is excited to welcome students to Fabric + Flow and help them begin their sewing journey.

What to Expect

Each day includes:

• Sewing machine instruction and safety
• Project planning and guided studio work
• Daily skill-building lessons
• Hands-on sewing practice
• Lunch, snack, movement, and outdoor breaks
• Flexible studio time for project completion and creative exploration

The schedule may be adapted to suit the interests, experience levels, and needs of each group.

Lunch and Snacks

Students must bring their own lunch, snacks, and any required dietary items.

The studio provides access to:

• A refrigerator
• A microwave
• A water cooler
  

Please bring a labelled water bottle and enough food to stay energized throughout the day.

• Optional media release
  

Forms will be emailed before the workshop and may also be completed at drop-off on the first day.
