Maker Lab: Teen Sewing Camp — Hoodie or Sweatpants

Two or three days of sewing, making and learning how to create your own clothes.

Maker Lab is a hands-on sewing experience designed for creative teens ready to spend some serious time behind the sewing machine.

Choose a 2-day or 3-day camp experience and spend time in the WORKROOM learning the skills to create your own clothes.

Makers will choose one project — a hoodie or sweatpants — and work through the process of creating a garment from start to finish.

Along the way, they’ll learn how to work with a sewing pattern, cut fabric, sew stretch fabrics and build the construction skills that turn fabric into something they can actually wear.

The 3-day option offers additional time to work at a comfortable pace, practise new techniques and refine their finished project.

No garment-making experience required. Just an interest in learning, creating and giving sewing a try.

CHOOSE YOUR PROJECT
Each maker will choose one garment to complete during Maker Lab.

HOODIE or SWEATPANTS

Project selections will be collected before class so the appropriate pattern and materials can be prepared.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN + PRACTICE
Through the project, makers will learn and practise:

• Sewing machine use + safety
• Reading and working with a sewing pattern
• Selecting a pattern size
• Laying out and cutting fabric
• Sewing stretch fabrics
• Garment construction and assembly
• Working with ribbing, elastic and garment finishes
• Creating accurate seams and clean finishes
• Troubleshooting common sewing mistakes

The goal isn’t just to finish a project — it’s to understand how clothes are made and build skills that can be used for future sewing projects.

WHAT’S INCLUDED
Everything needed for the project is included in registration:

• Fleece + coordinating materials
• Paper sewing pattern to keep
• Thread + project notions
• Use of WORKROOM sewing machines and equipment
• Guided instruction throughout all three days
• Finished take-home garment

Makers simply need to bring their lunch, snacks and a labelled water bottle each day.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Maker Lab combines guided instruction with plenty of hands-on studio time.

Each day includes skill-building lessons, project instruction and dedicated sewing time, with breaks throughout the day for lunch, snacks and movement.

With a maximum of eight makers, the group stays intentionally small so everyone has access to the equipment, instruction and individual support they need.

Different experience levels are welcome, and instruction may be adapted to help each maker progress through their project successfully.

Maker Lab is Fabric + Flow’s studio program for young makers interested in sewing, textiles and learning how things are made.

Through modern, wearable projects, makers build practical sewing skills, become more comfortable using studio equipment and experience the satisfaction of creating something themselves.
